Easy Silhouette Kids' Tees ...

What do you get your only grandbaby who has everything?

That was my dilemma this month when ParkCity...
***aka Parker Rhodes***
... had his  very first birthday.  This kid already has everything!

I decided to use the new Silhouette Cameo ... my lovely children
bought me for my birthday recently ... to make my sweet Roo some t-shirts.

Being new to this whole Silhouette thing ... I watched a ton of  YouTube tutorials.
Having watched as many as I could stand   ***and some of them are awful***   I was ready to start.
I decided on my design  for both tees then  drew it up on the Silhouette.
***evidently whales were the theme for this party***

***I'm not going into Silhouette drawing detail today ... that's a lot ... but next time I will.***

I  cut the designs  out of freezer paper and gently weeded the pieces
off the sticky mat ... using my ...  handy-dandy-weeder-thingy.

I think it's a good idea to  tape your shirt down  to the table ...
before you paint ... to make the shirt smooth and taut.
Be sure to slip some cardboard or freezer paper inside the shirt
... to prevent paint from soaking through to the back side.

Once I   laid the stencil out ... I  pressed it  with a hot iron.
I've never used freezer paper before ... but this stuff really sticks.    Who knew?
Next ... I   painted.    Better to do  several light coats  ... then one thick ... wet coat.

I used a hair dryer ... cuz ... well cuz I'm impatient.
All you normal ... patient people ... just  let her dry ... and then carefully
remove your freezer paper stencil.

Voila!

To be honest ... I was kind a shocked that it actually came out.
It actually looked just like the invitation.

My favorite tee ... however ... was this "Big Brother T-Shirt".
I think this one had a few of us tearing up ...  so I guess that was a good sign.

Yup ... Parker's gonna be a big brother  in October ... and it's a GIRL!
So ... they're just gonna have to save all the oceans of cute  "boy stuff " for next time.

Guess who gets to go "girl" shopping?
Sorry boys ... it is a lot more fun to shop for baby girls.
Maybe that's cuz there's so much more  "girl stuff"  to choose from.

Anyway ... I already told Parker's mom and dad to not buy EVERYTHING ...
leave something for Bibi to buy this time.
***that's me...by the way***

In the meantime ... I still have a lot to learn about the old Silhouette ... but
I think these 2 shirts turned out pretty darn good ........
pretty darn.

Today ... however ... it's Furbaby Friday!

I just got back from  Newport Beach ... last weekend ...
it's only Thursday ... and I'm already back on the go.
This weekend ... Beverly Hills ... alright!

Checked in at the Palomar Hotel Beverly Hills.

Here I am on this cool bench in front of our hotel.
How chic am I?   Maybe I'll check in with my agent.

This hotel is the bomb!   They really pamper me here.   Puppies are definitely welcome.
Pet walkers  ...  pet treats  ...  pet sitters  ...  they got it all.
No sneaking in here.

Check out this "Welcome sign"    See any names you recognize?
C'mon  ...    Blake  ...  there in the middle.
They have the names of all the pups staying in the hotel ... right at the entrance.
How cool is that?   VIP.... I'd say so!

Next stop ... check out the pool.  Work'n on my tan.

Then up to my room.

Wow...17th floor.    Check out this view.

Not really a vacation though ... dad's going to Cedar Sinai's tomorrow for
neck surgery ... so we won't have too much time for fun ... but for me
... this place is a vacation already!

C ya Monday!

    love Blake

How to Make 3D Letters for your Party

Tuesday, May 22

This past weekend we celebrated my grandson's 1st birthday.
Bibi ... that would be me ... was asked to decorate.
I decided to make some quick and easy paper lanterns ... and some nice ... large
three dimensional letters.

Let me preface this tutorial by warning you ... though they are not difficult to make ...
***especially if you need BOB or SUE***
it is certainly a time consuming project.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:
Cardboard
Tissue Paper ... about 10 - 15 sheets per letter
Tape ... tape ... tape

To cut out the letters I used packing boxes from Lowes.
***I think they cost about $1.50 per box***

I needed two of each letter ... and I could get two complete letters per box.

I made these 3 feet tall ... but you could make them whatever size you wish.

To draw the letters ... I just used a yardstick and freehanded it.

After cutting out front and back ... I used the remaining cardboard scraps to
cut strips "four and one/half" inches wide.

By piecing them together ... I taped the strips all around the letters.

For curved letters ... I scored the strips cross-wise several times.
***Make sure you don't score all the way through***
The strips then bent nicely around the curves.

I actually started by hot gluing the strips to the front and back ...
but found it was
much easier to tape the cardboard pieces together.

You can see how I moved from blue tape ... to duct tape ... and finally
finished in clear packing tape.
Yeah ... I did go through all my tape and hot glue.

I cut tissue strips about 4" wide ... and cut fringe every half inch or so.
I just eyeballed it ... no need to measure here.

Cut the fringe about one-third of the way up.
***Make sure you don't cut the fringe too deep...more coverage with shorter fringe***

This is the part that takes a lot of time.
Just start at the bottom ... fringe down ... taping the fringed tissue to the base.
Overlap ... overlap ... overlap.
Tape ... tape ... tape.
Around ... around ... and around.

The end result was striking ... if I do say so myself.

The 3 foot letters really made a nice statement ... and
went a long way to fill up an empty corner in this club house.

We not only used them as basic decorations ... but as a cool backdrop for pictures.
Case in point ... my sweet baby Parker.
Happy 1st Birthday.

We also used it as a backdrop to open presents.

The variety of paper lanterns hung in a group and the large 3 dimensional letters ...
made for a unique ... colorful ... and elegant party presentation.

Not wanting to devote the time for an entire name?
Try initials ... you can even turn them into pinatas by filling them with
goodies and sealing up the bottom.
