Technology Rocks ... The Square

Technology Rocks ....
at least most of the time.
If you're like me ... there are those times when you
have to stop yourself from throwing your laptop or cell phone or whatever ...
under the nearest bus.
In my case ... I've almost thrown my Mac into the pool several times.

But then there are times when the stuff they come up with is amazing.

Have you heard of ...
The Square?

This little gizmo ...
***and I do mean little***
lets you to accept credit card payments on your cell phone.
The money is then deposited into your personal bank account.
It also allows for a signature ... and then ... can print or email a receipts.

It works with iPhones ... Androids ... or iPads.
This thing is super cool ... and the card reader is free.
You do pay a small percent for each transaction ... but it's like 2.75%.

I just got one and it works great!
***I'm such a sucker for stuff like this***

The Square should be ideal for Craft Shows or other events.
People rarely carry much cash these days ... and checks have almost gone the way of
the dinosaurs.   I think customers will really appreciate the convenience.

I also think it'll come in handy at restaurants ... when it comes time to
splitting up the bill.  I can put the tab on my credit card ...
and then my friends can run their card and put their share in my account.

To be honest ... I've only had this thing a few weeks ...
and I haven't taken it to any shows yet.
So I'll let you know ...
I don't think even I can screw this up ... but the night is young.

Oh ... yeah ... I did get one more little techno-gadget.

It seemed like a good idea at the time ... it is cute.
Whatever ... I did use it for a week or so.

Ooooh ... but check this out ... now this I could use.

Well ... maybe not.

I'm so excited ....
***This is what's known as a teaser ... a trailer if you will.***

Good news ....... Bad news!

Bad news  ...  my birthday is here.     Good news  ...  my kids came to visit
... and they brought with them  ...
a wonderful ... marvelous ... and extremely unexpected
SURPRISE.

A Silhouette Cameo!

Ok ... well to be honest it wasn't a  complete  surprise .
According to my daughter ... Complicated Kai ... I've been dropping hints for weeks.

Look at her ... isn't she a beauty?
I don't know how many blogs I've read glorifying this marvelous gizmo.
I can't count how many give-a-ways I've entered ... hoping to win her.
And now ... she's all mine.

Can you read the happiness on my face?
I can't wait to create incredible projects and exquisite gifts for friends and family.
I'll add hundreds of unique gifts to my Etsy Shop ... have thousands of admirers ...
do guest appearances ... make millions of dollars ... and retire to my own island .
Thank you ... thank you ... thank you ... to my children.
However did you know?

Ok ... now what do I do?
Oh crap ... now I have to read the directions!
Why did I want this again?

Apartment Rescue ... Headboards

Apartment Rescue Project One ...

This was the first piece of furniture I made for my daughter's college dorm room ...
complete with headboard.
When she moved into her new apartment ... however ... she needed a change.
***of course***
I loved the original colors ... but change it up we did.

So from the black headboard with the glass buttons ...

... to the warm grey with accents of  turquoise and red.
The grey bedding ... courtesy of Restoration Hardware ... my favorite.
***getting pretty pricey these days though***

The first step in this room ... was to turn the ugly rough white paneling ....
into a much more interesting grey and white backdrop.

To be honest ... I took the easy way out ...  and left the recessed narrow stripes white ...
then just painted the raised boards the warm grey.
It looks so very nice ... I almost feel guilty taking credit ... since I was just being lazy.

The prints were a purchase from  Etsy  that we framed in matching black frames.

I created the original headboard from  plywood ... wrapped in batting.

Material was tightly stretched and stapled to the back.

Buttons were sewed and secured through holes drilled through the plywood.

I used the warm ... soft ... grey fleece for the fabric.
It's not only soft but easy to work with.
To top it off I sewed on a loosely tied bow made from extra pieces of fleece.

Kind of feminine ... but not too.
***does that make sense?***

As an extra bonus ... I used the same grey fleece to create a  puppy crate cover.
Since it was going to be in the same room as the bed ...
of course ... it had to coordinate.
***duh***

Yes ...  as you can see ... no bow.
It was too feminine I guess ... so she removed it.
Go figure ... someone tell her no one messed with the Mona Lisa.
Anyway ... she was the paying client ............ wait ... check that ...
I'm pretty sure I didn't get paid .... hmmm.

By the way ... don't you love the crystal light?
We found this on sale at a warehouse for a great price.
I think this is a great "classic" design  that can fit into many decors.

Well that's it for now.
We're off to a great start .... however ...
there's much more to the apartment rescue.
Are you kidding .... it's like giving me a blank canvas.

Project 1 ........  THE BED

Project 3 ........ RECOVER THE HEADBOARD
***of course and paint and make a crate cover ......***

You really can't say one is good and one is bad ... but we all need to change
things up from time to time .

Stay tuned .... there's still a lot of canvas in her
apartment to fill.

Tuesday Love ... The Beatles

Monday, March 19

My love for music began with  The Beatles.

Most of you are too young to appreciate the absolute
landslide and hysteria
these guys caused.

Paul .....
almost everyone was in love with Paul.
He was the "cute" one ... and just a look at that smile make me weep.

George .....
well ... not many picked George as their favorite ...
but they all swooned when he played the guitar.

John .....
John seemed like the bad boy ... and well ... we all seem
to secretly love bad boys.  He and Paul were the creative force of the group
... and together wrote most of the group's music.

Ringo .....
Ringo was the quirky drummer.  I don't remember anyone
thinking he was cute ... but there was just something about him ...
when he shook his hair ... that made us go craaaazy.

As you can see ... I managed tried to carefully preserve my precious
Beatles' magazines.
***of course I had to remember where I put them first***

I don't think there was any magazine in the world ...  the boys
were not on the cover of.

I was able to save some of my memories ...
but there were lots more I just wasn't smart enough to keep.

I still have my Beatles' button though ... yes!
The bottom button was a souvenir ... we got when we bought
tickets to their first movie ...
"Hard Days Night".
***I must have snuck out...my dad was not a fan***
***Just kidding dad!***

My prized possession ...
Official International Beatles' Club Membership Card.
Did you notice I was  Member #4?
***Even back then I guess I hated my picture...didn't put it on this card either***

Yes ... I was quite a fan ... actually the accurate term ...
Beatlemaniac.
I still have this Beatles' chain letter ... can't remember though if I ever got
my 250 Beatles' pictures.

I've seen a lot of musicians over the years ... and there have been some great ones.
I can say ... however ... that I've  never  seen the phenomenon
that was .......... The Beatles.

It was a part of history and of my youth.  We listened to our
45's  until they were too scratched up to play anymore.
We screamed ... we wept ... we went crazy.
When they broke up ... we thought we'd die.

They were absolute  genius songwriters.
They were so radical with their long hair ...
they drove our parents crazy ...
and we thought they were so cool.

We never in our wildest dreams ... thought they'd end up as
elevator music ...
but hey ... I guess that just marks them as  true classic artists.
..... sigh ......

Any Beatles' fans out there?
