No post today ... just a quick request for prayers for my mom.
She had a stroke Monday morning ... and I am up here in Fresno with my family.

I know she would hate this picture ... but sometimes it helps to put a face
with your prayers.

Thank you so much ...
hope to be back soon.

Monday Music ... I Got U Babe/Sonny & Cher

"I Got You Babe"
Sonny & Cher

Wake up .... it's Monday!
A little more music to start your week off on the "good foot".
Time for another lesson from the  Yoda of Oldies ... me.

These guys are so cool and very ... very "retro".
***although at that time they were actually "new"...  not retro***

I still have this picture Cher gave me.
When I was a very ... very... very young Yoda ... I got to interview Sonny & Cher
and meet with them back stage at one of their concerts.
It was "totally groovy!"

Now that's what I call bell bottoms!
They were total  fashion icons ... and really had a huge impact on style.

Yes ... I did wear bell bottoms ... they were pretty wild too.
I swore ... once I got rid of those things ... I would never wear them again.

Never say never!

Along comes   Rachel Zoe ...  and guess what?
I'm totally wearing bell bottoms again ...
and guess what else ...
 I own a fur vest ...  a huge shaggy fur coat ...
and  4 inch platforms!         Bananas!

You guys can call them  "flairs"  if you want ... but bite the bullet ...
they   are  really  bell bottoms!

Well you got a little fashion bonus today
Monday Music Oldies  and  Mod Fashion 101.

Have a Great Week!

***Please don't write and tell me my pants and vest are now out ... I'm still wear'n them***

The Ugly Bathroom ... After

Friday, February 24

Things are looking up.
I started out with a dated bathroom ... circa 1950.
If you missed all the sad details you can see all the former dreariness ... HERE.

The first thing to go was the white ... boring vanity.

I've always dreamed of finding a miraculously cheap antique dresser ...
which I could transform magically into a stunning bathroom vanity.
***Did I use enough adjectives in that sentence?***
Santa hadn't left me one under the tree the last few years ... so I went to  Plan B.
First on the agenda ... take out the drawers and open up the space for baskets.

To get the look of furniture ... I added some feet to the bottom-front of the vanity.
Next up ... I attached trim molding to the front of these built in hampers ...
then finished it off with new hardware.

I absolutely hated ... hated ... hated the flourescent lights and the long boring mirror.
I was a bit worried about removing the large mirror from the wall without it shattering ...
but it came off fairly easily and in one piece.
***Possible trip to the Emergency Room averted.***
I found these two framed mirrors at Beverly's Hobby at 50% off.
Of course they were a gaudy gold ... but that was easily fixed ... by painting it the
same cocoa brown as the vanity.

Changing out the flourescent lighting was a bit trickier ... those suckers were
really jammed in there.  Never say die ... well hardly ever ... I prevailed and
installed some more aesthetically pleasing fixtures from The Depot.
They're still not my first choice ... but the soffit here really limited my choices.

I removed the old medicine cabinet and re-plastered and painted.
***Haven't really found what I want to put in it's place yet.***

Don't send me any hate mail ... but I laid these pavers right over the linoleum.
I thought the tiling would be an easy job ... and laying it down was fairly simple.
I got into some trouble with the grouting.  Even though I sealed the pavers first ... it was
extremely hard to clean the grout off the tiles.  I think it's a matter of practice ...
knowing how long you have to smooth the grout lines and still clean the tiles.

I used a necklace as a wrap-around on the bath curtain.

So that's it so far.  Yes I still have the pink sinks and the funky tile.
My next step ... when my ship comes in ... is to replace the sinks and the tile.
Until then ... I've decided the pink seems to look a little better next to the Mexican pavers
on the floor.  The faucets ... they're getting ripped out next month.

As for the total cost ... well I would definitely say under $500.
I did all the labor myself ... the electrical ... the masonry ... and the carpentry.
The most expensive part was probably the fabric for the tub curtain and the blinds.
The magnolia wreath I also made ... I love that ... if I do say so myself ...
I even decided to add it to my Etsy Shop.

Saw ... hammer ... paint ... a bit of plaster ... mortar ... and drywall was all it took.
Easy peasy!
***My husband may tell you differently...I did get just a bit ... loud and hostile with that grout. ***

                                       Before                                               After

I still have things I want to do in here ... but I really love the outcome.
It really does almost look like a piece of furniture...
well almost ... but not bad for a gal on a budget.

Reinventing the Ordinary ...
***Thank you my dear....***

Oh yeah ... back to the elephants ... the name of Lauren's blog ...
***Did you like the way I worked that in?***

Take it away Lauren ...
_____________________

Hi guys ... my name is Lauren ... and as Becky already mentioned I
reside over at  The Elephant's Trunk.

I currently live in San Antonio, Texas ... but I really still
call Denver, Colorado home.  I share my life with my boyfriend and my
chocolate lab ... Carmelo.

***sorry Lauren ... I just had to add this sweet pic.***

I began blogging about a year and a half ago when we moved to Austin.
My boyfriend received a job offer here ... and at the time I had no job ... and knew
no one.  I took some on-line courses ... and consequently began reading
lots of blogs.  I was looking for some kind of creative outlet.

When I'm not blogging ... I spend my days working full time at a local golf course.
In my spare time I play golf ... of course ... but I also love
reading ... painting ... fashion and wine.

On my  blog  you'll usually find all things creative:
decorating ... food ... handmade shops ... fashion ... and more.

My Etsy Shop ... www.thetrunkshop.etsy.com
features ...

my original paintings ...

as well as my various handmade wine accessories.

I'd love to have you drop by my blog ...   The Elephant's Trunk
or my Etsy Shop ...   The Trunk Shop
... any time.

DIY ... Re-reupholstering a Room Divider

My daughter knows who to call when she needs things for her apartment ...
and we both know ... I'm not a very hard sell when it comes
to redecorating projects.
She claims she doesn't have the "creative gene" but I'm guessing
it's easier to just pass it off to someone ... her mom ... who's
a  DIY nut.
***card carrying***

Starting small ... I decided to repurpose a few things from her
room here at home.

I purchased this room divider several years ago ...
at a thrift store for $15.

I decided to turn it into a bulletin board ... by attaching thick poster board ...
and as you'll see ...  it has seen several color changes since then.

Step 1.   Pop off the fabric covered boards
... back to the bare naked truth.

Step 2.   Assemble the tools ...  ya don't need a lot
***Notice its previous lives***

Step 3.   Lay the board onto your fabric.
Begin carefully stretching and stapling the fabric.
Start in the center of one side ... staple ... then repeat on opposite side
... back and forth ... side to side.

Step 4.   Hospital corners.

Step 5.   Finish stapling all around.

Step 6.   Using Liquid Glue ... or similar product ...
slather the back of that puppy up.
***Is slather a word?***

Step 7.   Glue the boards back onto the divider.
I wanted to make sure everything would dry flat ... so I used the
method all distinguished designers use ...
outdated Encyclopedias.
***Why do I still have those?***

There it is!
I really like the new fabric ... a nice contrast with the white wood.

Step 8.    After taking the  "After Picture"  ...  get started on
my daughter's next assignment ...
pillows ... drapes ... and night stand.
***Fabric's all ready and neatly displayed for a dramatic finishing vignette.***

Yeah ... we're just getting started here.
Stay tuned!

Ten Things To do This Tuesday...

Tuesday, February 21

ONE
I actually need to  read  and organize my  PINS.
I love  PINTEREST ...  but if Pins could accumulate dust ... well you know.
Of course this could take me all day ... and then I'll never get to 2 - 10.

TWO
I need to dust off my bike and get some exercise!

THREE
I need to give my sweetie Blake a hair cut ... or at least a good brushing.
Bad momma.

FOUR
I seriously need to add my new items to my  ETSY Shop.
Such a slacker.

FIVE
I need to clean out my closet ... a total makeover wouldn't hurt either.

SIX
I really ... really need to get gas ... again!
Yikes ... $3.95 a gallon ... maybe just 2 gallons for now.

SEVEN
Clean the bathrooms ... yeah ... well I may move that down
on the list a bit.   No hurry.

EIGHT
I gotta water my plants.  I am seriously so lazy
when it comes to watering.  I'll spend tons of money on my
pottery and plants ... and then refuse to water them.
What's wrong with me?

NINE
Purchase some yummy  Carne Asada Tacos  for dinner.
No ... I won't be cooking them.
I am a craftsman ... not a cook.
***Did that sound convincing?***
This is one item on this list that will definitely get done!

TEN
Possibly the best part of my Tuesdays ... watch
NCIS Los Angeles.
These guys are awesome ... and I'm including Hedy!

Well ... now that I've wasted part of my Tuesday already ... I'd better get crackin.

Linking up with these gals ...
