I loved this Pottery Barn Platform Bed
for my daughter away at college ...
but the price tag for a Full Size .... $999...
so I hopped on over to Home Depot ...
***where I spend wayyyyy to much time***
to the DIY Section ... well it's all DIY at the Depot.
A little BEADBOARD ... some MOLDING ... add some PLYWOOD ...
and I was back in the truck.
I made the base in 3 rectangular cubes ... 2 for the sides ...
1 to go across at the end.
They were all basically the same.
Having them in 3 sections would make it easier for her to move,
The sections were basically three sided with molding attached in the front ...
beadboard added on the sides that showed.
The front being left open to slide in the storage cubes.
Voila!
A not-so-bad knockoff of the pricey Pottery Barn version.
I loved the baskets in the PB bed ... but again ... to save money ...
we went with the fabric cubes from Target.
In her small room ... this really gave her tons of storage.
Do you like the Peace Sign and the KAI? Decided to cut those out
of thin plywood ... and throw them into the mix. I love retro ... though it kinda sucks ...
that I am retro. Actually retro sounds better than old.
I loved the Target bedding. The purple was a nice accent.
She wanted me to add this headboard ... I'll hopefully go
into that in a future post. Since it was an after thought ... I just went
plain black with pearl buttons ... but it would go through a few
transformations in the future.
So there you have it.
My
PB price $999 ... without the baskets.
Mom's price ... with the cubes ...$100.
*** Well actually free to my sweet Complicated Kai ***

Yes, I agree with melissa. Can you please post a pic without the mattress? What supports the mattress?

I love this. And after looking at your tutorial this looks pretty easy!!
Definitely going to try this!!:)
What size mattress is this? I'm trying to figure out measurements and plans for a King bed like this because I absolutely love it!!
My husband and I love this bed, and we are moving so we decided to make it. We didn't have any supplies (except the tools). For the queen size (from your other post) the supplies including trim were $225. Thanks for the great idea!
